This tour is a real crossing of the Allgäu mountain range between Riedbergerhorn and Ofterschwanger Horn. Long, sometimes steep paths into the Bolgental-valley, trial-passages with short carrying-passages and one heck of a descend make for a great day on the saddle.
From the start we roll over field- and byways of the farms in the Illerauen and cross the river Iller near Altstädten. After a short ride the climb begins at Weiler and continues to Untermühlegg and Obermühlegg. Here is the starting point of a small trial that leads across to Bolsterlang. We pass the village Sonderdorf and cross the river Bolgenach near Obermaiselstein at the beginning of the Riedbergpass-road. From here on, it's a steep and paved road uphill into the Bolgental. After a flatter section we pass the Alpe Zumkleiten and later on the Alpe Bolgen. Here the path ascends heavily and the last section to the mountain house Swabia through beautiful meadows is a very intense climb.
After the steep driveway follows a trail that leads to the mountain house Swabia and the station of the Hörnerbahn Bolsterlang. From the way we turn off to the left onto the trial-passage and push up on the ridge. The track leads overroots and through alpine meadows with beautiful views across to the Prinschenalpe. From here, a wonderful mountain road leads down to the Gunzerieder Ostertal - it is important not to overheat the brakeson the long steep descent. From the forest hut Gräfenälpe an asphalt road leads out of the Ostertal towards Gunzesried. Shortly after the car park at the Schwandalpe we leave the paved road and drive the short but steep climb up to the Geißrückenalpe. From here, a steep narrow path leads down to Hüttenberg. We take a dirt road to Westerhofen and back to our starting point.
