As early as 1892, 40 farmers joined together to form a dairy cooperative in order to process their milk to cheese and butter. Since then, all the milk from the Gunzesrieder valley has been processed here. This makes the Gunzesried dairy one of the oldest continuously managed alpine dairies in Bavaria. Today there are still 15 farmers left, which is a high number in this relatively small area.
In the alpine dairy Gunzesried, various types of cheese are produced. Most famous are for sure the "Emmentaler" and the "Allgäuer Bergkäse". The dairy also produces fresh milk, buttermilk, butter and whey.
