World-famous opera festival held every summer on a lake stage in Lake Constance.
The Bregenz Festival has been a central, cultural event on eastern Lake Constance for over 70 years. They take place every year on a weekend at the end of July. Performances are traditionally held on the very elaborate and artistically designed lake stage. In case of bad weather, 1700 of the 4500 concert guests can move to the Festspielhaus. An opera is always performed for two consecutive years - internationally known works by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Bernstein and many others have already been performed. The Bregenz Festival can look back on a long tradition. The first performance took place in 1946 - at that time on a very provisional stage. The adjacent Festival and Congress House were opened in 1980.
